Oh, and consideration is a bargained for exchange.
When shall we hook up for beer or Jack-n-Coke? Should we wait for Sergei to get back? Dunno.
Did you guys read the "eminent domain" opinion? I read it just to see if I have retained even a shred of what I learned last year. I haven't had property yet, but who cares, it's a con law question, right? Oh, yeah, I haven't had that either.
What do you think? Are a research and development center of a pharmaceutical co./waterfront hotel the same kinds of things as a state park or an interstate? Does the public "use" the former things the same way it does the latter? I think not.
I'm going to have to agree with both of you, which is too bad because it could have been a spirited discussion otherwise. Or, maybe it still could be . . . Devil's Advocate R&D for a pharmaceutical company helps everyone who has a need for pharmaceuticals. It seems to be no different than making way for a for-profit hospital except that it helps a large number of people rather than just the people in the locality. The waterfront hotel (especially if it's a 5-star) helps the community because it brings in big-money investors who create jobs and generally make the city a better place to live.
