Is this a good thing?

This article is about the US limiting goods from China in order to ensure that US companies get a fair deal in the global market.

I think it's too late, but I wanted ya'alls view on it too.

I'm not really sure about that; not much of an economics expert. I didn't realize I was wearing Chinese underwear though.

It seems to me that if we can buy cheaper clothes from them, why not? Shouldn't we as a country focus more on higher technology and intellectual property, as well as simply owning everything in other countries?

It also seems to me that the fact that we own so much production in other countries inflates the trade deficit, because the money we send to China ends up back in the US anyway.

Watch a movie called "Network" from about 1975 starring William Holden, Faye Dunaway, and Ned Beatty. From a Paddy Chayefsky script wherein Beatty's character declares "There are no more countries anymore, only corporations!" And, of course, the corporations are not always located in their respective Motherlands. To the extent that this exagerration is true, I cannot see why I should care who makes my clothes, or my car, or my stereo. Do I understand the question, Jon? Or do I, as always, miss the point?
